Cup On Head Drill
The Cup On Head Drill is used to prevent over rotation by increasing the necessity for balance. The cup should not fall off your head. During over rotation your head will rotate and the cup will fall off. For this drill, you will need one of the following:
Throughout the steps, this will be referred to as the item.
Steps:
You should be able to swim any distance, no matter how long, doing this drill, once it has been mastered.
For beginners or children, the repetitive falling-off of the item can be frustrating. To avoid any aversion to backstroke, use a more flat item, such as goggles. Once the swimmer can swim with the goggles, begin this drill with one of the items on the list above.
- A coin (penny is good)
- A water bottle
- A solo cup

Steps:
- Carefully balance your item on your forehead while floating on your back. If you are using a solo cup, fill it with pool water.
- Gently push off wall. Arms should be in streamline, but do not go underwater.
- Begin swimming backstroke.
- If the item falls off, retrieve it and start over.
- Swim any distance.
